Några tankar – Some thoughts

Som tillägg till mitt senaste inlägg delar jag med mig av en bild från ett franskt manuskript daterat till 1400-1407.

As a complement to my last post I would like to share this picture from a French Manuscript dated to 1400-1407.

Det jag tycker är intressant är kvinnornas olika fruhättor – att de har så olika stil. De yngre kvinnorna har ganska lika modell på sina hättor medan den äldre kvinnan har helt annan stil på sin hätta. Om man går tillbaka och tittar på lite tidigare hättor så stämmer modellen bättre in där. Som den här i Luttrellpsaltaren.

What I think is interesting is that the older lady has a different style of hood than the younger women. The younger ones has quite the same model, they’ve just styled them a bit different, but the older woman has hood that fits better into the mid-14th century. Like this one in the Luttrell Psalter.

Man skulle kunna tänka sig att den äldre kvinnan är kvar i modet som rådde när hon var ung och inte vill följa den nya tidens ideal. Dagens ungdom, ni vet. “Det var bättre förr”. Om man tittar igenom manuskriptet så ser man att äldre kvinnor genomgående verkar ha den modellen på hätta till skillnad från yngre kvinnor. Man kan också ana samma sak i följande bild.

You could think that the older woman follows the fashion from her youth – not wanting to commit to the new fashion ideals. You know, the youth of today. Things were better in my days. If you look through the manuscript you see that genarally older women wears the older style of hood and the younger ones wears the knew fashion. The same fenomena might be seen in this next picture.

De tre kvinnorna längst bak har alla samma stil på sin hätta medan kvinnan längst fram har en annan. Om man skulle våga sig på en åldersbedömning utifrån bröstens placering så skulle åtminstone jag säga att de bak är yngre. 

The three women in the back have the same kind of hood and the woman in front has another. Judging on breast placement one could argue that the woman in front could be older than the others.
